Repeating last year's camp location, Saints players are going to training camp at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. Saints running back Deuce McAllister is a native of nearby Ludlow, Mississippi.
Saints football players will report to Millsaps on July 25 and break camp Aug. 19. The Saints will conduct 25 practices on the Millsaps College campus, starting with workouts July 27 at 8:50 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. Saints owner Tom Benson said, "We learned last year the value of having the team together as a group in the atmosphere that Millsaps provides. Everyone at the school and in the city worked hard to make our stay a success last year, which is something we all appreciated. And we're close enough where not only our fans from across the region can come and drive to camp, but we have the unique opportunity of bringing our team to the fans we have here in Mississippi and the Gulf Coast." Millsaps President Frances Lucas said, "The presence of a professional football team on the Millsaps campus was a very positive experience for the college and community last year, and we look forward to opening our doors to them again this season." Despite the insufferable Mississippi heat, the 2006 camp was a hit, as an estimated 15,000 fans attended the free practice sessions. |
