Fred Thomas (CB) re-signs with New Orleans Saints
Agrees to $800,000 pay-cut
March 6, 2007 - The Saint's cornerback Fred Thomas agreed to restructure the final year of his contract, (2007 season). Thomas was scheduled to earn $3 million in salary and bonuses in 2007. Fred agreed to reduce his pay by $800,000.
Thomas (5-9, 185) fought injuries and inconsistency during the 2006 season. Fred missed three starts because of hamstring and thumb injuries. Thomas struggled during the second half of the season, allowing too many deep touchdown passes, one to Donte' Stallworth during the Saint's play-off win against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Superdome. He had 72 tackles and one interception in 13 games.
Thomas, 33, is an 11 year NFL veteran, spending the last seven years with the New Orleans Saints. The Saint's probably want to keep Fred as an extra defensive back for nickel, dime and quarter packages.
What other veteran cornerbacks do the Saints have? Mike McKenzie and Jason Craft should be the starting cornerbacks in the 2007 season.
