All-Pro Free Safety Darren Sharper re-signs with New Orleans Saints!

Darren Sharper (FS) wanted to stay with New Orleans Saints for 2010 season all along

May 3, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans Saints Free Safety Darren Sharper has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with the New Orleans Saints. Darren Sharper, an NFL 5-time All-Pro, posted to his Twitter page: "To the entire WHO-DAT Nation, guess what? I'M BAACKK!" Darren Sharper said via text message: "I'm ecstatic about returning to the Saints. Now we can start working on the goal I said after (the) Super Bowl. That's winning another championship." In another text message, Darren Sharper said: "Just wanna tell you I'm extremely happy to be a Saint again. Now we can work on winning another world championship for the city of New Orleans."

Darren Sharper helped the Saints win their first Super Bowl last season while recording 71 tackles and nine interceptions, three of which were for "pick 6" (returned for touchdowns), in his first season in New Orleans. Darren Sharper was an unrestricted free agent, but the Jacksonville Jaguars were the only NFL team that pursued him before he decided to return to help the New Orleans Saints defend their Super Bowl title. Darren Sharper spent his first eight seasons in Green Bay, followed by four years with the Minnesota Vikings and one year with the New Orleans Saints.

Free Safety Darren Sharper (FS) completes visit to Jacksonville Jaguars

May 1, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans Saints Free Safety Darren Sharper concluded his 24-hour visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars, leaving Jacksonville without a contract. The Jacksonville Jaguars failed to offer Darren Sharper enough money for him not to return to the New Orleans Saints. Darren Sharper is looking for a significant raise from the one-year, $1.7 million contract he received last season from the New Orleans Saints. Darren Sharper will continue to explore his options on the free agent market, as it was rumored that he would visit to the Dallas Cowboys on Friday; but it turns out that the Cowboys seem uninterested in the All-Pro Free Safety. Darren Sharper will turn 35 in November and is coming off of knee surgery, but his veteran leadership and football-hawking instincts are desirable to all NFL teams. An All-Pro last year, Darren Sharper was a key figure in the New Orleans Saints march to the NFL championship and ultimate Superbowl win. Darren Sharper has until July 22 at 4 PM EDT to find a deal with another club, otherwise he will probably be a New Orleans Saint again this 2010 season.

Free Safety Darren Sharper (FS) is open to return to New Orleans Saints

April 6, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana. Unrestricted free agent Darren Sharper (FS) says that a possible return to the New Orleans Saints starts with a "BIG IF." Free Safety Darren Sharper said he would love to return to the New orleans Saints and he doesn’t hold any animosity toward the New Orleans Saints franchise. Darren Sharper remains on the free agent market following minor arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during this offseason. Darren Sharper said his free agent status isn’t due to his recovery, but that he’s taking the time to decide what team is the best fit while he focuses on his post- operation rehabilitation. Darren Sharper said, "We know this is a business. You always have to weigh all of your options. We’ll see what happens. I understand, in this game, there are two sides. And everyone knows this. You have the game and you have the business side. And that comes from being a guy who has been around the league as long as I have. You understand that, and you go on."

New Orleans Saints Safety Darren Sharper (FS) is an Unrestricted Veteran Free Agent

March 5, 2010 - New Orleans, Louisiana. National Football League 2010 Free Agency began Friday, March 05, 2010 at 9:00 AM. There were 531 NFL “free agent” players who could negotiate with all 32 clubs. One of the most important and most impressive “free agent” players is the New Orleans Saints Free Safety, Darren Sharper (FS).

Darren Sharper is one of the unrestricted veteran free agent, who in the 2010 Final (uncapped) League Year are players who have completed six or more accrued seasons whose contracts have expired. Unrestricted veteran free agents are free to sign with any club, with no compensation owed to their old club, through July 22 at 4 PM EDT (or the first scheduled day of the first NFL training camp, whichever is later). At that point, their rights revert to their old club if it made a "tender" offer (110 percent of last year's salary) to the player by June 1. Their old club then has until the Tuesday after the 10th week of the season (November 16) to sign the player. If the player does not sign by November 16, he must sit out the season. If no tender is offered by June 1, the player can be signed by any club at any time throughout the season.
