The defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints have signed a significant free agent in 31 year old defensive end Alex Brown. Alex Brown, a 6'3", 260 pounds defensive end has the ability to play any position on the defensive line; outside, defensive end or inside, defensive tackle. Alex Brown is a former SEC Defensive Player of the Year and All-American from the University of Florida and was picked in the 4th round of the 2002 NFL draft.
Alex Brown has 43.5 career sacks, 481 tackles (289 solo), five interceptions, 16 forced fumbles and 11 fumble recoveries while playing his entire 8 year career for the Chicago Bears. Last season, Alex Brown had 37 tackles with five sacks and a fumble recovery while starting all 16 games for the Bears for the sixth time in his career.
Alex Brown's has a solid reputation as an excellent, durable defensive end and appeared in 127 consecutive games for Chicago Bears with 107 starts. Alex Brown also started in four postseason games, making 14 tackles with one sack.
Alex Brown will help the New Orleans Saints run defense which had a bit of trouble last year. Expected to draft a defensive end early in the NFL draft this year, the New Orleans Saints are now less desperate now to replace waived defensive end Charles Grant, but still may pick a defensive end early in the NFL draft.
